RESEARCH PEPTIDE FUNDAMENTALS / COLOPHON
About whatisapeptide.com
A citation-anchored primer on peptide biology, using four very different peptides to show what the word 'peptide' does and doesn't tell you.
What this site covers
whatisapeptide.com exists to answer a question that gets asked constantly and answered badly: what actually is a peptide, and does calling something 'a peptide' tell you anything useful about whether it's safe, studied, or effective? The honest answer is no — 'peptide' describes a chemical structure, a short chain of amino acids, not a safety profile, a level of evidence, or a regulatory status. This site makes that concrete using four peptides that could not be more different in their research record: BPC-157, a 15-amino-acid protein fragment studied mostly in rodents; GHK-Cu, a copper-binding tripeptide with real human topical data; KPV, a three-amino-acid hormone fragment with zero published human trials; and semaglutide, an engineered, FDA-approved medicine backed by tens of thousands of trial participants. Each has its own page, a side-by-side comparison, and a shared reference list. Nothing here is sold, and nothing here recommends a dose.
How we read the literature
Every factual claim on this site carries a numbered citation drawn from the peer-reviewed literature, PubMed-indexed studies, clinical-trial publications, and reviews, collected on the references page. We report findings in the exact population and context they were studied in: a rat Achilles-tendon result is described as a rat study, not generalized to people; a 751-person head-to-head human trial is described with its actual sample size and design. Where the evidence is Phase 2, preclinical, or drawn from a pharmacovigilance database rather than a controlled trial, the text says so plainly. Where a compound's entire evidence base is animal or cell-culture work, as with KPV, we say that too, rather than implying human relevance the studies don't support. Community-reported benefits and side effects are always labeled as anecdotal and kept separate from cited clinical findings, because conflating the two is one of the most common ways peptide information online goes wrong.
The edges of this site
whatisapeptide.com is not a pharmacy, a clinic, a supplement store, or a supplier of any kind. Nothing on this site is for sale, no product is recommended, and no clinician reviews individual cases here. Nothing here diagnoses, treats, or prescribes, and no page names a dose, schedule, or route of use for any individual person.
Of the four peptides covered, only semaglutide is an FDA-approved medicine, available exclusively through a licensed prescriber. BPC-157, GHK-Cu (in systemic/injectable form), and KPV are unapproved research chemicals with no established human dose and, in KPV's case, no human trials of any kind. Anyone considering any of these compounds for any purpose should take that question to a licensed healthcare provider, not to this site or to a research-chemical supplier. Corrections, citation notes, or newly published studies can be sent via the contact page.
